FEATURED SESSION
262 Reimagining Early Childhood Education for Multilingual Preschoolers: Enhancing Children’ s Agency Through Inquiry, Writing, and Reading
This session discusses how bilingualism and biliteracy are achievable goals at an early age in culturally and linguistically diverse environments when educators follow an engaging interdisciplinary sequence of instruction that capitalizes on young children’ s inclination to play, use their senses, and actively make sense of the world. Participants will be introduced to the Interdisciplinary Biliteracy Sequence and its three components, which include hands-on experiences, followed by teachers and children writing about their experiences and concluding with varied reading activities related to the initial experience. This sequence results in language acquisition and content in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways.
