More Sleeps Til Barnetby”, where I will be meeting with Alicia and David before we travel up for ritual on the Abus. OK, so it's not the woods, beach, or edge of a mountain, and is just a bit random. For me, it has been the perfect way to celebrate a solstice. by Melissa K Wheeler
Summer Solstice Ritual
The past couple of days had seen some very wet weather, and the forecast was not brilliant for the Sunday of our Solstice celebration. The morning dawned grey and damp, and even I was wondering if the weather magic had failed me this time, but as always, all I asked for was that it was dry during our ritual. As always, the goddess obliged! As we gathered in the car park of the Far Ings Nature Reserve, it was grey and windy, but it was dry!
We made our way along the footpath along the river bank, almost in the shadow of the Humber Bridge, it we very windy up there, but we found the shelter of a secluded little spot, that was actually the site of an old cement works, now reclaimed by Mother Nature.
As can be seen from the picture, we were very close to the huge expanse of the Humber, but in a lush green clearing, not overlooked by anyone. We helped to set up the circle with the quarter lanterns, even managing to get the candles lit despite the windy day, and all gathered in a circle preparing to start. The ritual was led by Jean, with her, myself, Neil and Arno calling the quarters and casting the circle with the elements.
