The Capital City of South Africa will become the backdrop for an unforgettable experience on Sunday 27 August as the city prepares to host the inaugural Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K !
The Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series has been revolutionising the road running space in South Africa since 2015 , encouraging runners , walkers and fitness lifestyle enthusiasts to participate in the most experiential mass participation road running events in SA . Now in 2023 , the series has grown from a three-race series ( Cape Town , Durban and Johannesburg ) to five races , with the inclusion of new events in Gqeberha and Tshwane .
Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series , Michael Meyer , hails this as a groundbreaking year for the Series . “ We are thrilled to take the experience of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series to five major cities in 2023 , giving more South Africans the opportunity to be part of a world-class event that highlights iconic city landmarks , includes magnificent views , and features lively performances from some of the city ’ s leading performing arts groups .”
“ Growing the series from three to five events is no small feat , and would not have been possible without the support of our title sponsor , Absa , who has been a driving force since we welcomed them onboard in 2021 , and other key sponsors such as PUMA , DHL and Chery to mention just a few . Moving Up North
With the Gqeberha , Cape Town and Durban races already run – you can check out the results of those races on page 18 – attention now turns to Tshwane , and the inaugural running of the new Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K . The race will start and finish at one of South Africa ’ s most iconic landmarks , the Union Buildings , and Meyer says the organising team is really excited about this one ! “ Tshwane boasts all the requisites for hosting a world-class 10km road run , and the Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K will demonstrate it ,” he says . “ Our objective is to host an event that surpasses the norm of conventional road runs , celebrates the streets of Tshwane , ignites a passion for athletics , while sparking a culture of wellbeing and celebrating the importance of heritage .”
