Diesel-Electric Diary Valvoline moves up a level Valvoline is pleased to announce that its All-Climate Extra SAE 10W-40 motor oil has been reformulated to deliver increased performance and protection and now meets the API SN performance level. V alvoline All-Climate Extra SAE 10W-40 is a high performance partly synthetic motor oil, formulated to protect turbo and non-turbocharged diesel, petrol and LPG engines. Valvoline All-Climate Extra SAE 10W-40 delivers high temperature deposit protection for pistons, better wear protection and is designed to provide improved oxidation resistance, sludge control and better low-temperature performance over the life of the oil. API SN motor oils fulfil the requirements of ILSAC GF-5 for improved fuel economy and is therefore suitable for use in engines running on E85 bio fuels. Valvoline All-Climate Extra SAE 10W-40 Motor Oil boasts increased protection; better deposit control that exceeds manufacturer’s performance requirements; enhanced breakdown resistance; improved cold start properties and advanced detergents that keep engines clean and in good condition. The strong oil film protects engines against wear and corrosion, while a superior deposit control barrier is formed when engine temperatures rise. Valvoline All-Climate Extra SAE 10W-40 Motor meets all necessary approval and performance levels including API: SM, SN/ CF; ACEA A3/B4; MB 229.1 and Renault RN0700. It is recommended for use in engines specifying VW 505.00 or VW 501.01 and is recommended for use where Fiat 9.55535.D2 and G2 are specified. Valvoline All-Climate Extra SAE 10W40 is available from Diesel-Electric’s countrywide. For more information, visit www.diesel-electric.co.za Did you know... The American Petroleum Institute, commonly referred to as API, is the largest U.S trade association for the oil and natural gas industry. It claims to represent about 400 corporations involved in production, refinement, distribution and many other aspects of the petroleum industry. API as well as the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) created a classification system for oils that helps manufacturers and consumers compare different products and choose which is right for their vehicle. API’s four most important industry standards for Diesel Engines are: NAME STATUS DESCRIPTION CJ-4 Current – 2006 Introduced in 2006 for high-speed four-stroke engines. Designed to meet 2007 on-highway exhaust emission standards. CJ-4 oils are compounded for use in all applications with diesel fuels ranging in sulphur content up to 500ppm (0.05% by weight). CJ-4 oils are effective at sustaining emission control system durability where particulate filters and other advanced after treatment systems are used. CI-4 PLUS Current – 2004 Used in conjunction with API C-4, the “ CI-4 PLUS“ designation identifies oils formulated to provide a higher level of protection against soot-related viscosity increase and viscosity loss due to shear in diesel engines. CI-4 Severe Duty Diesel Engine Service The CI-4 performance requirements describe oils for use in those high speed, four-stroke cycle diesel engines designed to meet 2004 exhaust emission standards. These oils are compounded for use in all applications with diesel fuels ranging in sulphur content up to 0.05% by weight. These oils are especially effective at sustaining engine durability where Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and other exhaust emission componentry may be used. Optimum protection is provided for control of corrosive wear tendencies, low and high temperature stability, soot handling properties, piston deposit control, valv e train wear, oxidative thickening, foaming and viscosity loss due to shear. CH-4 These service oils are suitable for high speed, four-stroke diesel engines designed to meet 1998 exhaust emission standards and are specifically compounded for use with diesel fuels ranging in sulphur content up to 0.5% weight. | words in action 58 november 2014
