Special Report
➲ In a case of different horses for the same course, the contingent were given the
chance to drive both a Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Gallardo around the Automotive
Safety Centre in Viarano, an FIA approved Formula One testing ground. It’s a tough job,
but someone has to do it…

With the addition of EVO C, Walker
Evolution represents the only fully
homologated DPF range for a broad
array of light-vehicle replacement
applications. “Our OE market
leadership has enabled us to better
support parts distributors and
workshops in earning larger shares
of this emerging service opportunity
through leading technology
and excellent coverage,” says
Vandenbroucke.
Tenneco worked in conjunction
with an independent test facility in
Germany to validate the performance
and durability of its new cordierite
filters. These tests, said to have been
conducted under normal and extreme
operating conditions, reportedly
showed that the EVO C filters provide
reliable soot loading, regeneration and
reconditioning capabilities.

Horseplay
After the presentations, the South
African contingent strolled over to the
Automotive Safety Centre where we
conducted our own unofficial shock
absorber tests using Fiat Puntos that
either had 50 percent worn shocks or
brand new ones fitted for comparison.
Slalom swerving through cones and
sudden braking tests were performed,
with the differences noticeably evident.
This was followed by track time
behind the wheel of a Ferrari 458 and
Lamborghini Gallardo.
First-World Problems
During our time in Italy we couldn’t
help but notice some of the
similarities between that country
and ours. Believe it or not, but we
are not the only country that has to
deal with unreliable and slow internet
connections, poor and aggressive
driving, general inefficiencies and
poor customer service. Still, a great
time was indeed had by all, with many
connections made and knowledge
gained.
➲ The increased stopping distance of passenger cars with worn shocks, compared to those with new shocks, was perfectly
demonstrated in a 60km/h braking test
