GREENEST

EVER SAPICS CONFERENCE SET FOR 2025

The 47th annual SAPICS Conference, the premier supply chain event in Africa, will feature supply chain sustainability as a key topic on this year’ s agenda.
The annual Cape Town gathering, hosted by industry body SAPICS, is not only exploring global sustainability imperatives through expert presenters and attendees this June, but is also ensuring the event itself is as green and environmentally friendly as possible.
The Century City Conference Centre, Cape Town’ s only 4 Green Star certified boutique conference centre and venue for the SAPICS annual conference since 2017, has been recognized as a“ catalyst for climate change” due to its many green initiatives. Since 2023, the venue has achieved a 20 % reduction in carbon emissions and now meets 40 % of its daily energy needs with solar and other renewable sources. The conference centre has also reduced potable water usage by 30 % through initiatives such as dual plumbing and treated effluent water, and has achieved a 51 % waste diversion rate through recycling and composting programs.
Moloi notes that“ As our natural resources dwindle and carbon emissions rise, circular supply chains are becoming more critical than ever,” and that the conference centre’ s success in diverting resources from landfills and back into the circular economy resonates with SAPICS and its supply chain community.
ExpoGuys, a stand builder partnering with SAPICS this year, champions sustainability through modular stands. These stands, reusable up to 200 times before recycling, are more sustainable than seemingly eco-friendly biodegradable products that often have limited lifespans and require
tree felling. ExpoGuys’ Sustainable Stand Grading System assesses stands on flooring, structure, lighting, branding, and furniture, assigning Gold, Silver, or Platinum certifications based on material sustainability. This system promotes environmental awareness among exhibitors and stand designers, highlighting the long-term costeffectiveness and environmental benefits of sustainable choices.
Eyako Green, a supplier that upcycles used billboards and polyester marketing waste into durable products, will once again partner with SAPICS to provide ecofriendly and locally produced delegate bags.
These eye-catching bags not only look
good but also do good by creating jobs,
uplifting, and upskilling South African
