First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s
Move! Cities, Towns and Counties Program for Achievements in Addressing
Childhood Obesity
March 17, 2014 - Orlando, Florida
– Today at the Orlando City Council meeting, Orlando Mayor Buddy
Dyer and City Commissioners joined
with Families, Parks and Recreation
Department employees to accept an
award for achievements in addressing
childhood obesity from the National
League of Cities (NLC) as a part of the
Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties campaign in partnership with First
Lady Michelle Obama.
“Our children are the future of our
community and the City of Orlando is
committed to ensuring happy, healthy
futures for our youth,” said Orlando
Mayor Buddy Dyer.

Teaching parents of preschool aged
children about healthy
eating habits through
Parramore Kidz Zone’s
Baby Institute parent education program.
Prominently displaying
information on healthy
nutrition at all City recreation centers
Providing healthy meals
to thousands of children
every day, year round, at
City recreation centers
Providing a variety of opportunities for thousands
of Orlando children to be
physically active through
sports and recreation programs at 113 City parks,
47 playgrounds, 11 pools,
49 basketball courts, 43
tennis courts and more.
