ORLANDO’S VICTOR OLADIPO NAMED
KIA NBA EASTERN CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo was named the
Kia NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for
games played in December, the NBA has announced .
Oladipo is just the fifth Magic player to be awarded the
honor and the first since March of 2001, when Mike Miller was the co-winner of the award. Dennis Scott won the
award once, Shaquille O’Neal was awarded the honor
four times, while Anfernee Hardaway and Miller each
won twice.
Oladipo, the second overall selection in the 2013 NBA
Draft, ranked second among Eastern Conference rookies during December in scoring (12.7 ppg.), second in
assists (3.8 apg.), second in steals (1.33 spg.), fourth in rebounds (4.5 rpg.) and second in minutes (32.1 minpg.).
As of January 1, he also ranked among
all NBA players in steals (T-18th) and
assists (T-39th).
During December, Oladipo scored in
double figures 10 times and had 20+
points twice, including a career-high 26
points on both Dec. 3 at Philadelphia
and Dec. 13 vs. Cleveland. On Dec. 3
at Philadelphia, he also registered the
first triple-double of his career with
10 assists and 10 rebounds to go along
with his 26 points. In addition, Oladipo
also notched a double-double against
Detroit on Dec. 27, with 16 points and
a career-high 11 assists.
Utah’s Trey Burke was the winner of the award for the Western Conference.
