ALPINA REGULATOR

Alpina deconstructs timekeeping by once again incorporating the historic “ regulateur ” display into one of their mechanical watch offerings . While the name remains a calling card for the type , the effective and instinctual display of the Regulator appeals to a wide range of potential customers . While looking for intriguing ways to display time is nothing new , nor is the “ regulateur ” format , but it is one that has both historic precedent as well as modern appeal .
Historically , the regulateur was a clock at a manufactory that was the most accurate reference point for the watchmakers within . Thanks to its decentralized display , it was also easy to read from a distance while watchmakers seated at their benches adjusted the timekeeping on watches based on that central timekeeper ’ s tempo .
In modern usage , the deconstructed display is easy to read and as an added value an elegant expression of time . It uses the dial in a balanced manner without overwhelming the space with unnecessary complications or information , but focuses on the time . In this case the Alpiner Regulator Automatic is powered by a Swiss movement inside a fairly large 45mm stainless steel case crafted to 10atm resistance . The design lends itself equally well to both sportive and dress types with several limited-edition series of this edition available at prices ranging from $ 1,895 to $ 1,995 at us . alpinawatches . com .
