Bulova ’ s off-kilter classic was an especially popular design among doctors and nurses in the 1960s . Called the “ Alpha ”, the asymmetrical watch stood out not only for the unusual shape , but also the four-quadrant dial , which laid the foundation of later versions that would add markings that allowed quicker calculations of pulse and respiration rates .
The modern 505 Legacy collection emulates the 1965 original at a scant 33mm with limited editions of 500 available in either silver tone stainless steel with black strap or a gold tone stainless steel version with brown strap . Inside beats an automatic winding 26-jewel movement with a crown moved to the four o ’ clock position that accents the eccentricity of the shape . Priced from $ 1,390 to $ 1,450 .
