N T N W E W S S T E E L A new “instrument” watch passes the smell test. The Oil industry has a constant and unique danger in the form of the potential presence of the lethal H2S (hydrogen sulfide) gas. This has led to numerous detection systems being set up in critical locations on oil rigs around the world in an effort to improve safety. Now, the North Eagles company has developed a new personal H2S detector miniaturized inside a wristwatch. Using the latest genera- tion of electrochemical sensor, the H2S detector watch combines ergonomics and readability in a sensor system that goes wherever the wearer goes. The North Eagles Detector and Alarm Transmitter uses an electrochemical sensor with a lifetime of up to 4 years. This replaceable sen- sor has a nominal range: 0 - 100 ppm, a temperature range of -40°C - +50°C and a 92 db audio alarm with a flashing light on the dial and internal vibrator. The gas detector watch can also transmit the alarm directly to the control room. Connected via a smart phone application or a bluetooth network, the watch is able to transmit information such as the user name, its geo location on the site, the gas concentration and the time of the alarm. The application is customizable according to the client’s needs, specifications and corporate identity. 32 | AboutTime Magazine
