M MECHANICALS OLIVIER JONQUET Capitaine & Carosse French designer Olivier Jonquet integrates classical design cues in a watch that you would expect to cost much more than the actual price. Devoid of excess pageantry on the dial while paying homage to pocket watches from a previous era, Olivier Jonquet creates a real vintage feel in a fully modern manufactured watch. A short but elaborate hour hand circles above the cushion shaped aperture while a rear window allows a peek at the nicely decorated modern mechanics within both the Capitaine and the Carosse series shown here. Carosse elicits the retro glamour of French design, while the black PVD version of the Capitaine imposes a modern touch to the frame. Inside the 43.5 mm cushion case beats a manual wind ETA 6498-1 with a power reserve around 42-46 hours from full wind. Ornate two tone leather straps add panache and both of these series come in just under our $2,500 price point limit and depending on the exchange rate will hover around $2,300-$2,400 each. 22 | AboutTime Magazine
