Zodiac Dives into Ceramic
Zodiac enhances its hot Super Sea Wolf collection with a new ceramic-cased model , a first for the U . S . -based watchmaker .
As one of the Swiss watchmakers who devised the earliest modern dive watches ( alongside Blancpain and Rolex ), Zodiac has in recent years been laser-focused on creating serious dive watches with a distinctive American design flair . Since joining the U . S . -based Fossil Group in 2001 , Zodiac has deftly drawn on its 140 years of Swiss watchmaking know-how to offer eye-catching , high-value watches at affordable prices .
Drawing on its own vintage Zodiac Sea Wolf dive watch designs , the modern Zodiac has attracted attention among enthusiasts with a series of steel-cased Sea Wolf and Super Sea Wolf watch designs , all outfitted with serious dive-watch specs .
NEW CERAMIC The latest in his series , the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Ceramic , varies from the existing all-steel ( or titanium ) models in the Sea Wolf series . The new watch features a 40mm case built from hardened ceramic , which envelopes the case ’ s steel core .
With a ceramic exterior , the new Super Sea Wolf appears more polished and deeper black than you ’ d see with black-coated steel case . Ceramic , a high-tech material now widely found on watches , is scratchresistant , corrosion-resistant and fade-resistant .
As a result , ceramic watches typically look new for many more
years than comparable steel or precious metal watches . For the wearer there are other advantages , including its light weight and hypoallergenic properties .
“ We ’ ve always been attracted by the allure of ceramic , not only for its resistance to wear and color fading over time , but the opportunities it will allow us to explore creatively ,” notes Zodiac Creative Director Ryan White . “ Our design is reinforced with a stainless steel core for added durability .”
BRILLIANT DIAL Zodiac offers the watch with a particularly handsome midnight blue radiant sunburst dial with uni-directional rotating bezel and highly visible white hands and markers — all set with plenty of blue-white Superlumi- Nova . Those familiar with the full range of Super Sea Wolf models will recognize the marker and hand style here .
In low light the dial on the new watch projects a crystal-clear view of the time with broad minute markers , extra-long 12-6-9 markers and broad , well-lumed hands .
The dial on the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Ceramic also rightly touts its 200-meters of water resistance and displays the date .
Inside the newly developed case you ’ ll find a Swiss-made STP 1-11 automatic movement .
