Timex’s IQ
A little more than five years ago the Timex group’s
cutting-edge quartz TX collection broke the brand
into a new, higher, price point. This original collection
catered to the next-level Timex buyer with retail prices
that ranged in the $250-$450 price range – some
even a bit higher. The TX collection premiered a new
kind of movement called Intelligent Quartz that used
retrograde displays, among other functionality, to
offer a variety of information from times around the
world, to split-second chronographs, yacht timers and
even perpetual calendars.
Although the TX collection had the rug pulled out
from it before it was ever given a real chance to succeed, Timex has refined the technology and distilled
the functionality along logical lines. Now Timex offers
a branded watch with a lot of the same possibilities as
the earlier TX series, but now at about half the price.
Pictured here are variations including the yacht timer,
flyback chronograph, perpetual calendar chronograph
and the world timer. Each is water resistant to 10atm
and capped with a mineral crystal. The new Intelligent
Quartz collection ranges from a full size 43mm for
the fly back chrono, up to a fairly large 47mm for the
yacht timer. Prices: $160-$236 at www.timex.com
