M Mechanicals Hemel Keeping it simple is Hemel’s forte. Each stainless steel case has just enough details to keep it from appearing too ‘off the shelf’. A coin-edge bezel sits above the polished bevel around the crystal while subtle ramparts meet on both sides of the crown. Hemel’s choice of engines is the Miyota automatic 9015, nicely protected in a 10atm-rated 40mm stainless steel case. A domed sapphire up front compliments the flat sapphire on the back allowing a view of the movement. Small details in the dial layout use Super Luminova to recall vintage preferences among various military types, while steel grommets on the tough-but-stylish nylon straps reinforce the inspiration as well as the strap itself. At $399 I’d have to say Hemel offers a lot of watch for the money. Check them out at www.longislandwatch.com 26 | AboutTime Magazine
