P
acific Standard Time is set to launch a line of wood watches
that takes the type to the next level. Looking to get a leg-up
via a Kickstarter campaign, Pacific Standard Time will be using woods native to Hawaii and hand-carving them to add an extra
degree of individuality. Concentric diamond pattern on the hands
and a tattoo-like pattern on the dial amplify the Polynesian and
Micronesian inspiration for the brand.
These full-size watches are almost 51 mm in diameter – yet
due to the quartz (Swiss chronograph) movement within and the
natural wood cases and bracelets, they remain remarkably comfortable and light on the wrist. They are also skin-friendly as the treat-
ments used to seal the woods are all hypo-allergenic. What may
be most impressive is that these new wood watches are actually
rated water resistant to a swimmable 10atm and are capped with
a sapphire crystal. And because they are so light they won’t sink
like a stone if dropped in the water, giving you at least a chance at
recovery before they submerge too deep.
Using only the heartwood from trees that have naturally fallen
as a part of their lifecycle, Pacific Standard Time honors the ethos
of conservation and has also committed to planting a new tree for
each watch sold. Retail price is $499.99.
