The Danube River is Europe's second longest river after the Volga, it rises in Germany's Black Forest and flows south eastwards for a distance of 2857 km course through ten countries (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine) before emptying in Romania's Danube Delta. Some of its 1075 km length bordering Romania drains the whole of Romania. In the 1970s, a new dam raised the
