FORMAL General information and history My School—CNIV The National College of Ienachita Vacarescu, the first one of this kind in the county in the modern era is the natural continuing of the medium education forms in Targoviste in the feudal time. The age of spiritual Efflorescence , that includes the XVII century, starting with the reign of Mathew Basarab and ending with that of Constantin Brancoveanu, has consecrated Targoviste as the first cultural centre of Wallachia . Beginning with the 3rd of October 1874 the Boys Gymnasium from Targoviste is founded and it functions with only one class of students. In 1915 the functioning of the fifth grade for the superior course is approved with 49 pupils registered. In 1918 it’s mentioned the distribution in two departments– the Science and the Themanities, beginning with the fifth grade. For the first time it appears the name of ―Ienachita Vacarescu Lyceum‖. On the 1st of November 1944 the classes started in the location of the primary schools ―School number One‖ for girls and ―School number Two‖ for boys, because of the existence of a hospital in the school building, hospital that ended its activity on 12th July 1945. After the war the name of the school is replaced with the ―Nicolae Balcescu Boys Lyceum number Three‖. The lyceum had functioned as a middle school of 11 years between 1948 and 1953 and as a middle school of 10 years (in 1954 two promotions of students graduated—one with 11 classes and another with 10 classes). The Exam of Graduation was named ―Maturity‖, with the existence of oral exams for every subject studied from the finished class. Also, these promoting generations had part of final exams after every year of study, at every subject, beginning with fifth grade. Between 1951 and 1952 there are founded evening courses for the working class in production. The duration of these courses was a year longer than those of the day classes, There are also founded courses without attendance, with two sessions of exams—writing and oral, for every year of studying the tracks focused on: locksmith, mechanics, carpentry, electrical engineering, turnery, and for Humanities majors: confection– sewing, housekeeping. Between 1957 and 1965 the 11 years of educations is reestablished. In 1970 the old name of the lyceum of ―Ienachita Vacarescu‖ is reestablished, by the order of the State Council. In 1999 by the order of The Minister of Education, the ―Iecachita Vacarescu‖ Theoretic Lyceum became the National College ―Ienachita Vacarescu‖, with its headquarters in the Targoviste municipality, Str Calea Domneasca, no 235. 17
