Successful handover of Sesigo Mews housing development

By Brett Marlin
Historically , medium to low-cost residential developments were our bread and butter and if one looks around town there are numerous developments such as Kgale Manor , Kgale housing , Boiteko Estate and Molepolole houses , that bear testament to how we have changed the landscape of Gaborone .
Over the last five years or so we have developed no housing developments , but we are back ! Our latest multi-residential sectional title units , Sesigo Mews , were handed over to the buyers at the end of February .
Sesigo Mews is a three-storey development which has 2 X threebedroom units , 26 X two-bedroom units and 12 X one-bedroom units . We knew when we had sold all the units before we had even started construction that we were on the right track with the development . In fact , as soon as a buyer falls away , another takes their place in a matter of days .
This unbelievable demand for one ’ s product is a dream situation but , in some ways , puts so much pressure on us to under promise and over deliver . Well , we feel that we have done exactly that . In the past we have carried out most of the consultancy work ourselves and not engaged independent consultants and we have reverted to this methodology . Luckily , we have a really capable team comprising architect Roy Mapharing , quantity surveyor Funkie Moroka , along with Mulatu Kabede who did the structural and civil , providing first class support for the contractor and sub-contractors all the way .
It really is easy for one to take the attitude that this is a ‘ low cost home ’ and to reduce the specifications accordingly , but all of these units are expensive homes for the people who bought them and they deserve the best that we could realistically give them . All units are fully tiled , have timber fitted kitchens , glass shower doors and finishes that would not go unappreciated in a far higher priced unit . We are wanting to set a new standard in small unit developments and we really feel we have achieved this .
It ’ s not only the developer and consultants who need appreciating as it ’ s the contractor and their subcontractors who actually do the hard work and get it built . Thank you very much to :
