MAY
CELEBRATE
MOTHERHOOD
AND
APPRECIATE
YOUR MOM
M
oms like to be treated
special. The second
Sunday in May each
year is a day set aside
especially for her. This year, Mother’s
Day falls on May 14, 2017. Many
people will send cards and gifts, but
what she might really want is time
for the family to come together and
do things as a family.
Whether you follow a
tradition of taking her out for
Mother’s Day brunch or dinner, there
are many restaurants around the
area that will help in treating her
like a queen. One place she’ll love is
the Square in Downtown Covington.
There are a few restaurants with
Sunday Brunch, such as Mystic Grill
and the Irish Bred Pub. Both have
rooftops with beautiful, scenic views
of the Square. After brunch, take
a stroll through the Square and go
window shopping.

day. Porterdale is a quaint area with its
downtown along the River. If your mother
is the outdoors type, plan for a hike along
the Yellow River on Newton Trails or
take a bike ride through Yellow River
Park. Another option in Newton County
is to pack a basket of goodies and have a
picnic at Lake Varner.
Perhaps you want to take
Mom out to dinner? Some favorites in
Covington for mom are Pippin’s for casual
BBQ, Bangkok Grill for Thai, and Milazzo’s
for Italian. And if you want to pick up
something sweet in advance, stop by Baby
Cake’s in Porterdale or Jessicakes Bakery
in Covington.
Mom loves being with family.
She could be with her immediate
children or a few generations, the more
the merrier! And she might want some
time to relax from her busy life and all
its demands. One of the best ways to
commemorate Mom is to give her the day
off! Make it as easy for her as you can and
remember to tell her how much you love
and appreciate her. Happy Mother’s Day!
