TWISTS AND TURNS
Ashley Polito, 2019
It was like being stuck on a roller coaster for two years
There were these constant twists and turns that I couldn’t avoid
Throwing me in all different directions
As soon as we were at the top of the tracks, with our head in the clouds
We would go plummeting back to the bottom
Stuck in a constant loop of highs and lows
Always returning back to where we started but I could never seem to get out
My stomach in knots, and my hands clenched around the bar that trapped me on
It was only when I had finally let go and had fallen out that I had realized
We weren’t as high as it had once appeared
Leaving me with only minor bruises and scratches that would soon heal
And a feeling that a weight had been lifted off of me
