Abington High School Student Arts Magazine Fifteen Year Retrospective 1999-2014 | Page 24

My life is a brand new Crayola crayon: vivid, sharp, intriguing, and when used to the fullest potential, it is simply limitless as to what it can produce. Peel off the red label, and unveil my vivaciousness: Eccentricity has had its impact on me ever since I boldly stepped foot into grammar school, donning my beloved black stretch pants and gold headband, complete with the รก la mode troll watch. Though my parents didn't always approve of my actions, and often flinched when they found me munching away on strawberry-flavored Chapstick, they never shunned my experimentally curious ways. Although some of my preferences have evolved over time, and I no longer place Chapstick in the food pyramid, my love for exposing the inner me has remained fervent.

Choose my violet hue, and grasp self-esteem: My childhood never involved a videogame controller or a remote control. The words and pictures on the pages of books became my world. My mother and I cherished our time together reading and recording stories, including my personal favorite of Mousekin's Golden House. As time progressed, the pencil became my close companion, and writing stories accompanied with illustrations became an endeavor that would aid my world of creative development.

Hear my voice when you hold my orange wax: Reading and hearing about torture in even the farthest lands sends a piercing pain through my core. I began participating in Amnesty Internaltional with the intent of ending all unjust punishments. As President, it is my responsibility to use my voice, and write to leaders worldwide, asking to free all prisoners of conscience. With my own words I have helped set free the spirits of many aspiring souls - a personal reward far greater than any other.

Sense my devotion through my cerulean: Within my community, I have also created a distinctive impact through art. Last spring I designed a pair of "kitty litter pooper scooper shoes", with functional scoopers on the toe, kibbles within the heel, and a bubbly little cat toy attached to the back. My creativity and ingenuity now brightly beams within the local animal hospital, as the shoes stand proudly on the front desk.

Go ahead, scribble with all my hues: One can now gaze through the panes of a window, and be swept away by the distinctive signs of each luminous season. Turn the corner and become engulfed by "A Day at the Farm", where bales of hay and apple trees surrounding the bright red barn span two large walls. I have completed these latest murals at a local preschool, where my efforts have been mimicked by the children. Witnessing kids with paint smeared all over themselves and a huge smile on their face is simply rewarding.

I will never truly know who I am. But I do know that wherever I end up, I am going to paint the town red! And violet. And orange. And cerulean. And yellow. And blue. And pink. And teal. And turquoise. And mango...
