ALWAYS HOPE

Bobby Molloy, 2020

Why can’t it just be me?

We can’t live like this much longer.

I don’t know where to turn,

to turn to find them shelter.

For this is what I yearn.

My babies live in squalor,

but it wasn't always this way:

They used to have toys

and friends with which to play.

Now I hear the tears

of my little boy,

tears splashing on the ground,

it tears me up inside

like nothing else I’ve found.

The gloom of people, the stench of despair

daily lingers heavily in the air.

How I wish I could wash

away their anguish,

remove them from this fray.

Though darkness falls,

I will not.

I must stay as strong

as the sun that comes up.

We are together,

my family moves as one.

Hoping to find happiness

one day under the sun.
