The Child Within

Brooke Pettenati, 2019

A woman with eyes as blue as the ocean, hair as dark as a midnight sky, and legs that could go on for miles, was a child before she had to become a woman.

At the age of just eighteen, society had told her to become an adult, even though she was not quite ready. After years of having to fend for herself, she became uptight. Her face never moved an inch, her curls were as harsh as her personality, and she wore her lipstick as sharp as a fine line. The woman was filthy rich. Money can give you almost everything on this Earth and then some! But, what can't money buy? Love.

One day, a knowledgable and dapper young man entered her chaotic world. He had quickly shown her how to revive the child within her.

He had taught her how to smile, how to laugh, and how to love.

As she danced with him under the crisp, dark, twinkling sky, she flashed back to her childhood years.

She would prance around her yard, tip toeing around her home, leaping from stone to stone. Without a care in the world, she danced.

Now, she was dancing with a man who made her feel something she hasn't felt since she was just an innocent child.

All her materialistic items that sprouted from her endless amount of money had become a thing of the past. Her love was now the present. Being in love had done magical things for the woman. Including, leading her childhood to shine bright throughout her once again. Although, the woman and the child may be different, they still dance the same.
