What even happened?

One moment, best friends,

the next,

complete strangers.

One can’t even say that we’re enemies.

Every day,

I can feel you drifting, drifting, drifting

farther and farther away from our memories,

as if you can just simply run away from them,

leaving me in the dust.

We used to walk side by side.

At least then,

it wasn’t equivalent to a sin to be around me.

Now it’s a miracle when you don’t leave as soon as I’m in sight.

Darling,

you won’t even look me in the eyes.

All you do is stare at your faded skates,

as if they’re a lock you haven’t quite figured out how to open.

If you want honesty,

I’ll give you honesty.

I miss it,

I miss it,

I miss it.

I. Miss. It.

I miss the days of whispered secrets

and not-so-quiet laughter.

I want it back.

But in the end,

the choice is up to you.

Whether we get what we had back,

or we just continue as strangers with memories.

The decision is yours.

I do hope you make a good one.

If you do decide to leave everything behind,

and move on as if I never existed,

I have just one thing to say:

Thanks.

Thanks for being one of the best friends I’ve ever had.

I’ll miss you.
