Being the Copper Lady
Laila Aboudrar, 2019
Boxes and boxes of old, weary models were cradled to the art museum for work on anatomy referencing. Now, you must step in one model’s point of view. Be star-struck! You’re being appreciated by someone for the first time in years. Fall in love with that artist and his deep expression –the way he concentrated on you. Don’t forget: the artist is going to be oblivious to any of this. A sculpture can’t speak. Its best bet is to stir a mean, deep-whipped melancholy as it realizes, with its own two eyes, that the artist’s painting was soon to be finished. Your sealed-up lips never got to warn him that every other sculpture, in that entire facility, was product of murder, or that human bodies lie cast in their copper shells. You are now eternally intertwined with an object.
Have you ever had someone treat you like art?
