"Tai chi-Paracas" is a series of paintings were recently exhibited from June 6 to July 1, 2024 at the Ministry of Culture in Lima, Peru.
The exhibition consisted of 90 paintings, and a life-size photograph of the "Paracas Mantle" whose weaving is part of the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
This series of paintings is inspired by the fabric of pre-Columbian Peru "The Paracas Mantle". Each of the 90 paintings corresponds to each of the figures woven on the edge of the mantle, which represent women, warriors, shamans, curacas, animals and plants of the Paracas culture. Just as the original woven icons depict activities of the daily life of the people of Paracas, it is understood that these paintings reflect some of today's daily activities such as Tai Chi, dance, drumming, and sports.
A selection of the works was exhibited at the Palmer Gallery, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY, from January 18 to February 15, 2024.
