On March 24 of each year in Argentina is the Day of Memory, Truth, and Justice in which the disappeared of the last civic-military dictatorship (1976-1983) are remembered.
According to national and international human rights organizations, around 30,000 people were disappeared in Argentina during those infamous seven years that were also reproduced in different Latin American countries. The exact
figure in Latin America is not
known since Argentina is the
only country that, with the advent of democracy, made Memory, Truth, and Justice a state policy that judged the military for crimes against humanity and still continues today searching for
the truth.
In the city of Mar del Plata
– internationally known as
The Happy City and a beautiful beach resort on the Atlantic coast, we talked with the anthropologist Joan M. Portos who is part of the work team of the Lighthouse of Memory space.
