In recent weeks, the public in general, and immigrants in the US in particular, have seen with dismay the images and news of Republican governors sending immigrants from one state to another with false pretenses and for purely political reasons.

Lawyers have started lawsuits against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for these actions.

It is noteworthy that the local population, in contrast to the actions of Governor DeSantis, welcomed the immigrants with kindness and help. State Rep.  Dylan Fernandes, who represents Martha's Vineyard, tweeted: "Our island jumped into action putting together 50 beds, giving everyone a good meal, providing a play area for the children, making sure people have the healthcare and support they need. We are a community that comes together to support immigrants."
