It is estimated that nearly 1 of 5 children and teens are obese. Obesity means a person has too much body fat and can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and even some cancers

Causes there are many reasons from medical to genetic. The most common cause is an increased consumption of unhealthful foods and sedentary lifestyle.

Prevention eating well, exercising regularly, building healthy habits. As parent, love your child, no matter their weigh, help the entire family to be healthy together. Breastfeed. Don´t reward or punish behaviors with foods. Don´t maintain "clean plate" policy, reinforce the idea of eating when hungry and provide age appropriate portion size.

Symptoms

physical and metal: Rapid increase in weigh. Stretch marks on hips and abdomen. Dark velvety skin round the neck. Fatty breast tissue development (specially in boys). Snoring or breathing with open mouth while sleeping. Early puberty in girls, late in boys. Constant hunger, Poor self esteem.
