What is the Great Homeland?

Patria Grande is a concept to refer to the common belonging of the Latin American nations and the collective of a possible political unity.

The concept is closely linked to the references of the liberators in the Wars of Independence of Latin America especially Simon Bolivar and José de San Martin and their unfinished project to politically unify the Hispano-American nations.

Although the Uruguayan Jose Artigas already made use of the term, it was the Argentinean Manuel Ugarte who popularized it in 1922 when he published his book La Patria Grande, where he gathers speeches delivered in various Spanish-American countries, promoting the idea of Latin American unity.
