In addition to possible physical harm, victims of domestic abuse often live with long lasting emotional and psychological effects. In fact, 73% of women that experience domestic violence suffer from depression or anxiety (Women’s Trust). The long term mental health effects of violence against victims can include post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, or depression.
For youth, dealing with trauma and abuse can cause a child to have developmental delays, difficulties at school, aggressive behavior, and low-self-esteem.
