The inhabitants of the island of Puerto Rico are citizens of the US, however, they remain in a colonial state. They are not a recognized State, they have no representation in Congress, they have only a partial autonomy over their destiny and they are mired in a social and economic crisis from which they cannot, or are not allowed, to leave.
