With so much fearful news dominating each day, it can be hard to recognize moments of progress. Taking time to acknowledge what has worked can offer hope. Over the past year, several collective efforts have shown that public pressure and community action can make a difference.
On his first day in office, President Trump rescinded protections for “sensitive locations” including schools. Recently, several local school districts in Dutchess and Ulster County are creating policies to protect students. Recently, Kingston declared its schools as a “safe” zone, provides a protocol for non-local law enforcement with staff training, protects student data and offers families “Know Your Rights” resources.
