It can bring many benefits as well as challenges. Social media allows teens to communicate with others, express themselves, learn many new topics, and much more. In most circumstances, we don’t realize how negatively social media can affect the mental health of youth. According to The Department of Health and Human Services, adolescents and children who spend more than 3 hours on social media tend to have a higher risk of mental problems, such as showing symptoms of depression, anxiety, etc. In addition, 46% of adolescents, ages 13-17, said that social media makes them feel worse.
According to specialists, keeping some time off social media can create a great change. Social media causes things to either seem way more than they are or even change how people act in some ways. Although social media is a way to communicate, share moments, and have fun, it also has some setbacks.
Typically, 13 yr olds and above is a decent age group to use socials, but younger than that shouldn’t be considered, or maybe social media needs screentime limits or ways to control how long socials are being used.
