Oregano and its health properties
Regarding health benefits, it is a source of multiple nutrients; consuming one spoonful daily with meals allows one to harness its powers. It can be taken as an infusion or tea or used as an essential oil.
It is an anti-aging plant; carvacrol and thymol are the active components that work within the bodies of humans and animals, providing anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.
It provides 8% of the daily requirement for Vitamin K, supports vascular health, helps prevent cognitive decline and osteoarthritis, and fights infections and inflammation. It contains antioxidants that nourish neurons damaged by poor habits and combats free radicals. It inhibits the growth of intestinal bacteria, acts as an antiviral (preventing herpes outbreaks), stops the growth of cancer cells, and serves as a flu remedy that soothes respiratory symptoms.
It helps prevent *Candida albicans*, a fungus that colonizes the vagina. It is consumed with meals—using fresh green leaves, dried leaves, or oil—and helps prevent flatulence.
It is used in wound healing as an antiseptic and antibiotic, and to treat conditions such as acne, eczema, and fungal infections, among others.
