S
Stettheimer, Florine:
For an exhibition which was held at
the Manhattan gallery M. Knoedler
& Co in 1916, Florine Stettheimer
created an unusual setting for the
painting of her family. Inspired by
her own house, she transforms one
area of the gallery into a domestic
room with a canopy, draperies, and
tinsel that ressembled her own lacetrimmed bedroom at home.
Sweet little mouse
Wanted her own house
So she married Mr. Mole
And only got a hole
S
Stettheimer, Carrie:
Carrie Stettheimer had dedicated
twenty years of her life (1916-1935)
to working on an dollhouse that not
only recreated the decor and furnishings of the Stettheimer home,
but also featured precisely clothed
dolls representing the sisters and
the visitors they received in their
salons. The doolhouse contained
miniature versions of artworks
made by their artist friends. Among
them, Duchamp create a dollhouse
scale-version of Nude descending a
staircase (1912).
