Rowe & Slutzky:
In their essay « Transparency : Literal and Phenomenal », Rowe and
Slutzky considers pictorial place in
early modern painting in relation
to the architectural work of Gropius and Le Corbusier. For the swiss
architect, the planar qualities of
glass were more important than in
its transparency ; he prefered the
implication of anterior space to its
literal revelation. Likewise, in painting, it is the flat surface itself rather
than perspective that is the transmitter of spatial continuity.
