SR 910 over PA Turnpike Project Owner: The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Contractor: Joseph B. Fay Company Construction Manager: Hill International, Inc. Project Cost: $6M +/- (The contract also includes the WB440 bridge replacement for a total contract value of just over $10M). Project Description: This bridge is one of 5 early action bridge replacements of bridges crossing the mainline turnpike between the Butler Valley and Harmarville Interchanges. This work is in preparation of the 6-lane mainline turnpike widening between these two interchanges (between mileposts 40-48). These bridge replacements are necessary to move the abutments further from turnpike centerline to accommodate the two extra lanes. The WB-433 Bridge carries SR 910 over the turnpike in Indiana Township. The original bridge was a through-girder single span structure that was built in the early 1950’s. The new bridge is a three span continuous composite steel structure. It has 6 lines of 36” deep plate girders with an 8” reinforced concrete deck. Both abutments are on predrilled and driven HP 10x57 and HP 12x63 piles. The abutments and piers have an architectural surface treatment that is intended to replicate random stone native to the region. It was accomplished using plastic form liners and the surface was stained and sealed. The bridge was closed on February 11, 2013, and the new bridge was opened to traffic on October 25, 2013. 11 | P a g e
