AAFS Annual Report 2018-2019 | Page 12

Over the past few hockey seasons, AAFS has formed some amazing relationships with teams from around the world through “The Jersey Project”...what is the Jersey Project?? Glad you asked!

During Ball Hockey in 2017, AAFS began reaching out to Non-NHL Professional, Junior and USport hockey programs. We wanted to show our members there was more to hockey than the Hitmen and Flames. We asked teams to send in a game worn jersey to expand our members’ sense of community and show them “Hockey Cares”. Well….Hockey did Care, even more than we could have imagined! 120 teams from North America and the World sent in over 400 jerseys along with equipment, t-shirts and a variety of team swag.

This past season, three of our members were able to forge their own relationships and earn a role with a team. Bryce, Owen and Alex have been heavily involved in the ‘Jersey Project’ at every level and spent this past hockey season as members of 3 local teams.

We asked Bryce, Alex and Owen each the same 3 questions and their answers are below.

Q1 - What is your favorite jersey? What makes it special?

Q2 - What makes working with your team important?

Q3 - How has The Jersey Project and being involved in Hockey changed things for you?

Owen started 2017-18 going to games as a fan of the Calgary Canucks. He has grown to be a volunteer at every home game. Now Owen is in charge of all music and sound, and, helps out with pre game introductions and lighting.
