The man most responsible for the sport of football is Walter Camp, known as the “Father
of American Football.” In the late 1800’s football was a completely different game than that of
today. For example, field goals in football today’s game are worth three points, but as of back
then, field goals were worth five points. Football is exceptionally easy to understand despite the
many rules on the game. Although the rules may change slightly through the different levels of
play, many of the rules and style of the game are the same.
High school football is slightly different with the amount of time played and the tempo
of the game. In high school football games are only 48 minutes long and a shorter half-time.
The different levels of football have different speeds of the game and high school being the
slowest of the three listed is one I have experienced myself. At this level of play players usually
find their love for the game and try there best at this level to even be considered to go on to the
next level which is college. High school football is where a boy becomes a young man, it shows
who can take a hit, and it also shows who can give the hit. High school football is like a drug
when they first experience it, and after the first season you want to play another. After those four
years of high school it hits hard and you want to play again. People today who play football
grow and better themselves on the football field and this makes them grow to love the game. To
others, they may already have the talent, but do not really grow to love the game, and this is
usually where a boy truly learns how to play the game to better himself as a man.
One 11-man team has the football. It is called the offense, and it tries to advance the
ball down the field-by running with the ball or throwing it - and score points by crossing the goal
line and getting into an area called the end zone. If the offense does so then they receive six
points getting the ball into the endzone. The other team (also with 11 players) is called the
