Introduction
If not the most, then one of the most watched sports in North America is American
football. Football has affected my life in so many ways that I grew to love the sport at a young
age. I am interested in doing research on how the game of football has changed through the years
and then comparing and contrasting the past and the present day rules. Resources provided me
with information on football equipment which can contribute to how the game is played
differently today compared to the past. The sources have also given me a “behind the scenes”
appearance of the game of football so I can go deeper into the game and understand more on the
NFL. A possible interviewee can give me insight on how the game has changed through the
years and different levels in which he has played. I will conduct more research on football and
how the game has changed through the decades.
Lit Review
The interviews and sources conducted from this research consist of the different aspects of
football to help explain how football as a whole has changed throughout the decades. Usually
when people do research football, they lean towards concussions, which is a very important part
of the game, but so are the other pieces of the game. One of the most influential pieces of
football today which taking effect in 2016 is politics within football. It has attracted much
attention and the players today believe they can make a change in society today. This is why all
the different parts of football are equally significant in how the game has changed.
David Camarillo’s Ted talk provides information on concussions and the science behind
preventing a concussion. He gives factual evidence and data that shows how concussion actually
occurs. Later, Camarillo explains the technology possible for improving the helmet and other
possible designs that are being created to slow the brain down and keep it’s tissue from
stretching immensely which causes severe brain damage. Also, this provides a contrast between
the equipment used from the first days of football to today’s technology applied to football
equipment. Neuropsychologist Kim Gorgens displays in her Ted Talk that NFL players with 3
or more concussions has severe memory issues.Football is a heavily contact sport that requires
equipment to prevent injuries for the most part. Today the game is much faster and could be
