A Tribute to Edsel Vincent Colvin June. 2014 | Page 3
Introduction
Edsel Vincent Colvin was born on May 30, 1923, to
parents Frank and Estella Colvin. Out of four
children, Edsel was the youngest. He had three
sisters, Aina, Juanita, and Marjorie. Edsel spent his
early years raised by a housekeeper by the name
of Hattie Hall; the reason being his mother died a
year after his birth. Edsel’s sister Juanita took over
the housekeeping when he turned eight. Edsel
attended Gold Beach High School and was the first
to become president twice in a high school career
in Gold Beach. Edsel loved to fish on Lobster Creek
near where he lived. His first salmon he ever
caught weighed twenty pounds and was almost as
tall as he was. He was influenced in fishing by Lex
Fromm, a friend of his father’s. His father owned
bait and tackle store that’s on the corner of what is
now Colvin Street. He has been through lots of
exciting events that I will soon share.
