A Tribute to Edsel Vincent Colvin June. 2014 | Page 15
Back Home
After getting home Edsel spent a summer working
for the Forest Service building trails and repairing
telephone lines in the back country of Curry County. He
went to the University of Oregon to complete his
education. A couple months later he got a package from
his dad with his discharge papers. Apparently, somebody
had found them in his stolen bag and sent it to his dad
who sent it to him. He later met Lea Pennington and
married her in 1948. He had 3 children with her: Penny
Lee in 1950, Catherine Ann in 1952, and Paul Vincent in
1953. In 1998, Lea and Edsel celebrated their 50th
anniversary. Edsel taught at Gold Beach High School for
many years, later becoming principle and then
superintendent of the Gold Beach schools. He retired in
1985.
Today
Today Edsel resides in Madras, Oregon happily living as a retired veteran, as a
father, an uncle, and a grandfather. I have enjoyed learning about what he has
done in his life and what has happened. It has been a great experience to learn
about a family member whom I have not gotten the chance to know. I hope to
someday meet Edsel and get the chance to learn more about him.
