Otherwise, the disc is packed with fairly prototypical nods to sexual prowess, partying, and the hard life of the ghetto, with some strong beats and production flourishes. ~ Erik Hage, Rovi [6] Rasun-An Interview With Rasun, The Artist Behind the Deep Gravelly Voice

Rasun created this post 11 months ago Rasun Rises Up To Become Known As “Your Favorite Artist”

Best known for his deep, gravelly, voice and his dreadlock hair, Rasun is one of the top flow masters in the music biz. While sitting at the Coffee Bean in Ventura, California, Rasun comments during this interview “ I am contacted every day by artist’s and labels asking if I would put my vocal on their singles.”

It is apparent that if you are a listener to Urban and Hit Radio you will have heard Rasun’s voice and just didn’t know who it was. In the past he did not push to be listed on the liner notes and credits, his game was, if you have the cash money, he was game to lay down his vocals on your song. Now a days Rasun requires that all of his performances list Featuring Rasun.

Rasun was kind enough to play for us nine different singles coming out featuring him this fall and in the spring of 2010. Some of the tracks were with Crooked I, The Jacka, Glasses Malone, Fed X, San Quinn and C-Bo. In addition to Rasun collaborating with these artists, he is releasing his first single titled “Last Chance” from his forthcoming album titled Alone Again. The Jamaican DanceHall King himself Beanie Man steps up to bat on Rasun’s album and knocks m’ dead with the smokin’ dancehall track titled “Get It On”, which has dance club favorite written all over it. You can hear “Get It On” at http://www.reverbnation.com/rasunmusic.

Rasun was asked the question on how many other artists songs he has laid his vocal on and what is his favorite song that he has collaborated on, he replied, “ too many to count and to speak on a favorite would be impossible iv done songs with everyone from O. A.R. on some rock **** to C Bo on some gagster **** to some Hawaiian style so everything is just really different.”

Rasun went on to speak about the music business. “I have worked with a lot of singers rappers labels booking agents mangers you name it and not everyone has been great to work with there’s a lot of jealousy out there and everyone who says there your friend isn’t speaking the truth mostly they just want something from you or even worse they want to keep you from going where they’ll never reach just out of spite got to watch your self in this industry its dirty.

When listening to Rasun’s forthcoming album, it does not seem that you can pin point Rasun’s style. It could be called Hip-Hop/ Reggae although his smooth deep gravely and writing style is Urban. He definitely has his own sound and look! .

Rasun explains, "I love the development of my music, that's what I wake-up everyday [sic?] for. I try everyday [sic?] to develop my music, you know what I’m sayn’? Even when I think that my newest music is the best I’ve done, it feels like it just keeps developing even more. That's why all musicians continue writing more and more music. It just keeps going on forever."

Rasun , embodies in his lyrics, all of the desires and fantasies of a female. He sings of making endless love in a everlasting relationship, fun and mischief with his lady, taking romantic island vacations and jet-setting in the spotlight while fulfilling his ladies desire for constant romantic love making.[7]

Beenie Man Praises New Churban Style Recording Artist Rasun As He Turns Up The Heat On Sean Kingston and Sean Paul Contemporary Hit Radio which is better known as Top 40 has spawned a new style of music mixed with Urban called Churban

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) September 22, 2009

One of the most promising rising stars of the new Churban music genre is the artist named Rasun, who is leading new recording artists to further popularize this new style of music. Music Industry Analysts say that this new style of music called Churban could be the next 'Big Thing' mixing Urban/Rap and Reggae. At the recent Texas Summer Music Conference a panel of music industry executives stated that, as of today Rasun is one of the most promising new artists of Churban music. Big deals have already started in the Churban music scene. With industry veterans Russ Regan (responsible for signing stars such as Berry White, Elton John and Neil Diamond) and Bruce Caplin a national record promoter that helped launch Prince, Los Lobos, Tone-Loc and Tracy Chapman, have teamed up to manage the young Rasun. With a super management team in place, it is almost certain that Rasun will push the popularity of Churban music globally. As some critics are saying Rasun is merely lucky, Rasun said, "I'm not lucky, my new managers are the ones that got lucky…. lucky to have the opportunity to work with an artist like me." It will be sometime before we can actually find out whether this statement by Rasun shows arrogance or is just a sign of confidence of making it Big in the International music scenario. Critics compared the arrogance of Rasun to Bono from U2, Prince or even the arrogant black sheep artist Kanye West. Rasun's voice is very unique and can be instantly recognized, which is a strong characteristic for reaching superstar status. So long as he continues to put out great music, it is very possible that Rasun could hit the top of the music industry charts. There is a strong chance that with continued supporting from fans, Rasun could reach the Top of the Billboard Charts in 2010 and possible be nominated for a Grammy or two. Rasun is best known for his love songs, such as Always Love You. His first major album release is scheduled for release in February 2010, with several singles release between September 2009 and the release of his album. When Rasun is not touring, he spends a lot of his time with his brother Don Juan producing, writing and performing as featured vocals with Crooked I, Glasses Malone, The Jacka, Fed X, San Quinn and C-Bo. With the debut release of Kid Cudi last week, Rasun is releasing a smokin' dancehall club track titled "Get It On" featuring Beenie Man.[8]

Rasun was raised in the San Francisco Bay area of California.[1] His father is Jahsun who was founder/member of a band called Strictly Roots[2]. The band consisted of American and Jamaican musicians and helped pioneer Reggae music in the United States [3] .

At the age of 12 Rasun began singing a few vocals with the band and by 14 was playing drums [4]. With the passing of his father it was only natural for him to take over the role as front man.[5]

He has recorded with such artists as Shock G, O.A.R., Beenie Man, Crooked I, and Glasses Malone

Vocalist/rapper Rawsun and his younger brother Don Juan Cartel grew up around reggae, but this album has little to do with that form of music. Their late father, Jahsun, fronted the American reggae band Strictly Roots. When their father died, the brothers took up the mantle, with Rawsun (aka Rason Jahmal) taking over vocals where his father left off. The group enjoyed great success with their traditional reggae/dancehall sound in Hawaii, but by 2001, Rawsun and his keyboardist-producer brother were looking to incorporate the more modern influences of hip-hop and R&B into their sound. This led to a parting of ways with their older bandmates and to the years of studio work that culminated in Rated R. This album is hard-edged, party themed hip-hop with speedy, Jamaican patois rapping. There's not much unique about Rated R, which (with songs like "Get High" and "Life Ain't Easy") primarily falls back on clichéd hip-hop gestures. There is the rare pleasant surprise, however, such as the appealingly Bollywood lilts to "Doin' It."
