Benefits of Informal Learning Pedagogy and Popular Music with Normal Technical Students: Self-Directed Learning through the Use of Technology Pauline Fong Liew Yueh Jurongville Secondary School Abstract This research paper focuses on how self-directed learning can be developed with the use of technology, informed pedagogically by the Informal Learning approach. The research was carried out with a class of Secondary One Normal Technical students over a period of 14 weeks. Students were tasked to work in pairs to perform a popular song of their choice. Students were given access to laptops with Internet connection, with which they could access online resources. Working with their partners, most of the students were able to play their selected popular song on the keyboard during a Teachers’ Day tribute in school. 111
