As Dali painted more he called this his period of “Nuclear Myssticism.”(Dali by Dali). His art was always filled with symbolisim but it seemed now to be more focused in science as a base. He incorporated optical illusions in conjunction with science within his work. I found it interesting that eggs repeat itself many times . I imagine it is a representation of life or birth. Using Gala as his primary muse he made more religious paintings as well. In Corpus Hypercubus (1954) he uses a hyper cube and the body of Christ is suspended and seemingly mounted on the cubes. It is abstract yet the viewer understands that it is the crucifixion. The Hallucinogenic toreador (1968) and the Discovery of Christopher Columbus (1959) also in corporate optical illusion and continuity in the space. but he still uses collage format to display multiple scenes.

Dali spent years working on his Teatro Museo in Figueres, Spain. He and Gala had a home on the beach there in Cadaques.By this time Salvador was heavy into science and religion in his art pieces. The museum itself was of Dali’s design and was a surrealist piece of art. It was previously the Municipal building in which had his first art show. He created pieces that were made just for the museum. It opened in 1974.

By the 80’s Salvador had to stop painting because he had problems with his hands. In 1982 Gala died. She was his everything. She took care of the business side of his career and was the love of his life.once she died he lost the reason for living and fell into a depression. Soon after There was a fire in their apartment next door to the museum ,which some believe was a suicide attempt. He then moved into a castle he had renovated for Gala.He died January 23,1989 in Figures,Spain from heart failure(salvadordali.com). He was buried in a crypt at the museum.the inscription said Salvador Dali Domenechi;Marques De Dali De Pubol. A distinction king Juan Carlos had given him in 1982. He died in the same town he grew up in and was buried in the same place he had his first ever art exhibition.

Dali was gifted . He knew how to work a crowd and even understood shock value in modern society. One thing a person could not help but to admire in him was his continued efforts to not take political sides. I guess he just didn’t want to be labeled or pigeon holed into one thing or another. He was one of the few artists Ive heard of that still had money when they died. He made a good living doing what he loved . He was always endevouring to make himself better. He changed his style often ,but was true to himself in the expression. What is astounding about his career ,is the many avenues he went down to achieve this goal. I have never heard of a person who tried and succeded in so many different things.Paintings, sketches ,movie scripts, ads, graphic art ,he did it all. I believe some of the outlandish things he did were to just keep himself famous . only movie stars and the truly famous understand that that is what needs to be done to stay that way .He wrote books ,did television shows and various other things in an efforet to stay in the public eye. He made himself and His artwork intriguing. Other artists and actors alike still talk about him and write about how they were inspired them .

I must admit that I am a big fan of Surrealist art.. Some how the collages of pictures ,of dead bodies , decaying faces,or melting clocks make you feel something.. It makes something in your brain come alive and tell you ,you must feel something when you look at it . Whether You love it or you hate it, it still makes you feel.
