PROTECTING OUR FRIENDS
Inspire Compassion
When there is a pet who needs a home or a wild animal that is injured in San
Diego County, more often than not, San Diego Humane Society is there to help.
Last year, the nonprofit took in 33,555 domestic animals and 12,370 wild ones.
Three locations in San Diego, Escondido and Oceanside serve 12 cities and 2.2 million people
with a wide variety of programs and services. Here are five ways you can help to give animals
right here in San Diego a second chance at a better life:
1. Adopt. When you are ready for a new family member, check out the available pets www.
sdhumane.org, where you well find dogs, cats and small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs
and rats, as well as livestock and other animals.
2. Volunteer. There are many opportunities to volunteer your time and talents in shelters
or by fostering animals who are not quite ready for adoption. Project Wildlife needs
on-site and satellite caregivers. Help is needed for education programs, the Emergency
Response Team and many other areas of the organization.
3. Host a Fundraiser. Raise money on Facebook for your birthday or organize a supply
drive. There are countless ways to contribute by hosting an online or in-person fundraiser.
You can also bring this idea to your workplace to spark some joy and teamwork around a
cause everyone loves.
