A Nurse's
STORY
An uplifting true story of how a nurse becomes a nurse.
This section is dedicated to all nurses. The editor would like to inspire others with the testimonials of why nurses become nurses. It's not just a job, its a calling.
In 2005 I was working as an administrative assistant for a group of radiologists. When I learned the skill of transcription I grew fascinated with anatomy. My most frequent question, why. Why does it do that, what causes this, and so on. I'm sure that I drove a few people crazy with all my questions.
My natural instinct to know why is ultimately what started this journey. I was at home one weekend watching a marathon of the T.V. show ER and all of the sudden an overwhelming feeling came over me. A small voice inside my heart said, "Go become a nurse".
Two weeks later I was enrolled into a liscensed practicle nurse program. I graduated in 2007 which is the same year my mother passed away at home. She had multiple bouts with cancer for many years. This was my first encounter with Hospice care, perhaps that is why it is now my passion.
I went on to RN school and finally am about to finish my BSN. I feel like I've been in school forevery and now that I am writing this realize its almost been 10 years.
Yet I am not finished yet. I want to pursue my masters in nursing and either major in education or obtain my nurse practitioner, maybe both.
My mother has always been an inspiration to me, and I promised her that I would not stop with my nursing education.
The ironic thing is that I was a late bloomer with college etc., but God has a funny way of placing you right on the path you were always suppose to be on, as nursing runs in my family. My father was a medic in the U.S. Navy, and my eldest sister has been an RN for 30 plus years.
I'm proud and honored to be in this profession and want nothing more than to see it continue to grow, improve, and make a difference in the world.
