P ERFECT L OVE THE PROPOSAL It was the weekend of David’s 30th birth- day. He’d been intent on wanting a mellow “staycation” in Chicago so I didn’t plan anything specific. On Friday, February 6, 2015, we left work early and planned to grab a glass of wine at Eataly, one of our very favorite foodie spots in the city, but somewhere we go often. “Are you sure you don’t want to try something new to kick-off your big birthday weekend?” Nope. He wanted Eataly. So we walked over to the edible heaven and snagged a spot at one of the standing only tables. I wanted red, but he insisted on Champagne and it was his birthday … and I never say no to bubbly! As I was waiting, I heard an acapella group start to sing behind me and thought, nice touch Eataly! Then I heard the song they were signing, Bruno Mars “Marry You.” Even though David’s really selfless, I didn’t think he’d choose his 30th birthday to propose, so I assumed someone else was getting proposed to at MY favorite place! I was so annoyed. He walked back over with 2 glasses of Cham- pagne and I pointed out the singers. As we watched them sing he said I love you. “I love you too babe,” I said, still thinking that yet ANOTHER girl was getting en- gaged besides me. “And I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” he said super seriously. Then he dropped to his knee and I couldn’t believe what was happening – I WAS GETTING EN- GAGED! The acapella group was for me! Through happy tears and excited shak- ing I managed to say YES! and pull him up to plant a huge smooch on his sweet lips!
